Photography is the art of seeing. When I bought my first camera, I was excited to finally be able to record my unique way of seeing in a tangible form that I could share with others. My story doesn't start there though, I have a different background than most photographers and it is a strong element in the way I see...
My formal education and training is in the field of wildlife ecology, in which I received my Master's Degree from the University of Kentucky in Peregrine Falcon behavior and ecology. I then worked for the state of Kentucky as a falcon biologist or a short time before pursuing photography as a full-time career. My research focused on observing behavior for 10 hours a day and this was key in helping me to develop the anticipation and observation skills I now use in my documentary work. Being able to anticipate action and wait patiently for just the right moment is so important when trying to tell a story of a fast paced wedding day, kids running and playing, or basically all life as it unfolds.
My love of art and nature are relected in my unique perspective behind the lens. My eye is drawn to dynamic compositions which reflect the dynamic spirit of my subject. I also look for bold patters, shapes, and colors often found in the details of life. Quite simply, however, I am drawn to the realness and natural beauty of life itself and I work hard to show that in my photographs. I photograh life and I want to tell your story in photographs.
I am passionate about what I do and determined to incorporate my love for people and life into my art. I have two cats and one husband. They are all the loves of my life and all very cute. I am definitely from the midwest but I can't be contained there. I have a restless spirit that keeps me traveling and finding new places to explore!
